Major after Miracle

While Scott Stewart has given up on trying to win a spot in the Miracle Mile with Bitobliss, Avenel trainer David Aiken is giving his emerging pacing star Cold Major a chance to compete in the country’s premier sprint race.

Cold Major has drawn barrier two in tomorrow night’s Group One $100 000 Cordina Chicken Farms Sprint over the 1609 m trip in a bid to win automatic entry into the Miracle Mile.

It will be the Art Major six-yearold’s toughest assignment of his 44-race career that has produced 17 wins and nine placings.

But he is going to be in the race for a long way from his favourable draw .

Cold Major, who will be driven by regular reinsman Josh Aiken, has shown he can run time with a 1:53.4 mile rate performance over 1720 m at Melton in May and the big Menangle track should suit his style of racing. Cold Major will have Composed as a stablemate on the trip north.

Composed is second emergency for the Cordina Sprint, but will contest a heat of the Smoken Up Championship, where he will have his work cut out coming from barrier eight over the 1609 m trip.David Aiken will also have key runners in two features at tonight’s meeting at Melton. His trio of talented trotters — Thanesan, Cold Sister and My High Expectations — will take on the champion and soon-to-be Victorian-based NSW trotter Keystone Del in the Group Three $20 505 Derby Royale Trotters Free For All, while Wartime Sweetheart and Smudge Bromac tackle the $20 505Markovina Free For All.Stewart was not disappointed in Bitobliss’ run at Menangle in the Coca-Cola Sprint last Saturday night when he loomed up to second in the home straight, but faded in the concluding stages. Stewart said Bitobliss went a lot better than his drive and pulled up well, but he will concentrate on some of the plum Victorian features coming up, with the Cranbourne Cup on his immediate radar.
