KYABRAM TROTTING CLUB FAREWELLS ITS ONE CONSTANT OF THE PAST 50 YEARS IAN PURDEY

Ian and Julie Purdey are off to the richest thoroughbred race in the world after the man known as ‘‘Purd’’ was recognised for his long and faithful service to Kyabram Trotting Club last Sunday morning.

In appreciation of Purd’s long association with the club in continuous roles including secretary, treasurer and trials commentator since the club’s formation in 1969, the Purdeys were presented with airfares, tickets and accommodation to attend The Everest race meeting in Sydney in October.

The $13 m The Everest is the world’s richest horse race and the Purdeys love their racing.

At a well-attended presentation after the Sunday morning trots trials Kyabram Trotting Club vice-president Rod Caldwell and new secretary Rob Gunn spoke in glowing terms of Purd’s mammoth contribution to trotting in Kyabram and the industry in general during such a long period.

A letter from Harness Racing Victoria’s development manager Robert Pongo praising Purd’s professional and expert knowledge of the industry during such a long period was also aired at the gathering, which was the culmination of a weekend of farewells to the Purdeys who left Kyabram this week to live in Melbourne where all their immediate family lives.

During Purd’s long association with the club it won six HRV Graduation Club of The Year awards.

He has also been personally recognised for his services to the industry with a Distinguished Service Medal.
