TOP-THREE PLACING COULD SEE PACER TOP $3M

Goulburn Valley cult pacer Lennytheshark will be striving for more than his first Neatline Homes Shepparton Gold Cup win tomorrow night.

A top-three placing in the Shepparton Harness Racing Club’s $50 000 marquee event would have Lenny top the $3 million barrier in prizemoney.

The cup was to be decided in January, but a power outage after race five at that meeting forced the postponement of the cup to tomorrow night.

The David Aiken-trained champion goes into the 2690 m marathon with prizemoney of $2 995 083 from 39 wins and 30 placings in 79 starts.

Lenny will be resuming his career having not raced since February, when he ran fifth in a record-breaking Miracle Mile.

The Group Two Shepparton Gold Cup is one race he has not won, with a third placing behind Franco Ledger in his only cup run in 2015.

He has trialled impressively for his return tomorrow night and under the free-for-all conditions will be meeting all his rivals on generous terms.

An M29 class pacer, his nearest rival in terms of metropolitan class wins is Messini, who is an M10 class pacer. The other back rower in the race is Clancys Fobwatch, who has an M8 assessment.

Lenny is one of five Goulburn Valleytrained pacers contesting the time-honoured race, which has been won by some great pacers over the years.

The other Goulburn Valley runners in the race, Shakahari, Hugh Victor, Brallos Pass and Im The Boss, have drawn barriers one to four respectively and are all each-way chances.

Im The Boss has been a huge improver since joining the Aiken barn with wins in the Cobram Mildura cups.

If he can find the lead for his in-form driver Kima Frenning, he might give his stablemate a run for his money along with Cruz Bromac and Brallos Pass.

The only interstate runner in the race, the Menangle-trained Outrageous El, would need to improve on recent Sydney form to cause a boilover.

But really Lenny has been thrown into the race and with and with his trainer in the sulky should to be just too good for his rivals.

The other feature events on the 12-race card are the $20 000 Group Three Alabar Shepparton Trotters Cup, the $12 000 The Abrahams Two-Year-Old Trotters Classic and the Cardigan Boko Shepparton Oaks Trial have all drawn strong fields.
